    it doesn't have Usenet support... Plus a Core 2 Duo is too slow for most

    Yeah, Thunderbird IMO is the best for usenet access.

    Thunderbird actually pulled up some old emails from Thunderbird that I could not pull
    up in gmail.
    So yeah I like thunderbird.

    Some time ago, developers at Qualcomm took the Thunderbird engine and
    skinned it to look like Eudora. Interesting idea, but I don't think it
    took off.

    Thunderbird Portable has been my go-to on the BBS for years. I can run
    it from my documents folder and know I get all of the mail when I do a
    backup. I'm not a fan of email software that stores mail in your
    appdata folders.
