    for long-term storage, the better bet is to get distilled water, it lasts longer. Alternatively, if you do use tap water, add 4-5 drops of unscented liquid household chlorine bleach per gallon to keep it fresh.

    distilled water isn't great for drinking i've heard. it has no minerals in
    it.

    i've heard people say it depletes you of those minerals you need. i'm not so sure about that.

    Same with reverse osmosis (RO), as it filters out most minerals. Some RO filters have a stage for remineralization. You can buy mineral drops too.
